Phillippo Scout Reservation Mom's Campout

April 11-13, 2008

Submitted by: Bobby H.

A great turnout of 12 moms and 18 scouts drove to Phillippo in the chilly onset of April. A Saturday morning snowfall attempted to suffocate our spirits but we toughed it out. Our accommodations were the Gwin center along with four cabins heated by wood-burning stoves. Some of the scouts got a little bit carried away with the pyrotechnics of these stoves. We played the typical cabin board games, including Trans Am. Other weekend highlights included “Guess the Baby” game as the boys tried to identify scouts from a collage of unlabeled baby pictures and our own version of Troop Feud. On Saturday morning, everyone worked on making a patrol flag, even the Mom’s Queen Bee Patrol. Robby and Phil worked with the younger scouts on some requirements. The rest of the boys practiced orienteering but were befuddled by a power line that “altered the magnetic field of their compasses.” In service to Phillipo we trimmed the lower branches of a number of evergreens. That afternoon we also made a trek to Friendship Point.
