Troop 449 - Mom's Campout - April 2007

This year, for the first campout of the season, the boys talked their Mom's into taking them camping. The ladies decided to rough it by getting a cabin while the boys slept outside. The weather was great.
Mom's weekend activities included the following:
Setting up camp and playing games Friday evening
A few scouts slept under the stars, the others were in the cabin, wall-to-wall with Moms
Fresh Caribou Coffee for the first morning
Cooking breakfast
Making patrol flags
Older scouts assisted younger scouts fulfill scout, first year, and second year requirements
Orienteering courses organized (somewhat creatively!) by scouts using camouflaged plastic eggs and compasses. Both scouts and
Moms followed through the courses to get to the treat bag at the end
Cooking lunch
An afternoon hike in beautiful weather
Another Caribou Coffee run, and some ice cream treats for the scouts
Ultimate Frisbee
Games of Risk were played throughout the weekend
Cooking dinner
Special time at the campfire...each Mom wrote something about her scout's early years on a card; the scouts each drew a card and read it and the others had to guess who the scout is.
More board games on Saturday evening
Seven people joined the group on Saturday, so a few more scouts slept under the stars and a few slept in a tent
Lots of time for camaraderie for both scouts and Moms!
Sunday morning was early "rise and shine" and cleaning, cleaning, cleaning
And we didn't forget the end of campout Conga line!

The Moms made better food*

Camping with Moms was fun, but we still had to cook!**

I like the Moms, but there needs to be the same number of Moms and Dads
I really liked using the compass to find the eggs

I hate getting sick on campouts
Was it deer poop or rabbit poop? Perhaps the scouts should research that?
I'm so glad that Joey picked up a few recipes from watching Rachael Ray
Michael and Jared should get credited with inventing the fabulous new dinner "camp-potle"
Who wants Caribou?
*We need to qualify this quote. The scouts had assigned cooks like usual, the Moms just made sure the menus had a higher standard.
